Internet Liberals

During online polls leading up to the last British General Election it looked like a very close fight. The actual results also showed a close race but there was one distinct difference in the share of the votes. The internet polls showed a much greater favour towards the Liberal Democrats, which eventually failed to amass to anything. People used this to show that these internet polls were unreliable for general elections, and to an extent they are correct, due to over-riding liberal attitude of the web.

While in no way are those that associate themselves with the internet culture or those that spend a lot of time online automatically liberal or left-wing, they generally appear to favour more liberal views on certain topics. You can obviously pick examples across the web of conservative or right wing presence but overall it appears to be very liberal.

A good case was that of Wikileaks, and the Julian Assange trials. While there was the obvious debate, controversy and arguments about Wikileaks and Assange, an overwhelming majority came out in support of Wikileaks (even if only to a certain extent).

I think this boils down to a simple concept, those in a network of information that can freely pass from person to person, uncensored and unedited often support the freedom of all information. The internet is also a generally uncensored place, and information that is censored is leaked elsewhere anyway. It’s liberating to have this true freedom and many take this freedom to their everyday life.

I may be completely wrong, but from what I see of fellow users seems to imply what I have written here. And if what I have written is true, I mau have found a place to call home, at least until the world sorts itself out.

Homoeopathic Logic

A homoeopathic expert (I know, calling someone an expert in that field is more damaging to the name expert than the term Apple Genius is to the term genius) has claimed that water has memory, in the form of remembering a chemical that was in it at one point, because the brain is 80% water and the brain remembers things.

Fantastic, and to show the idiocy and stupidity in that statement let us use their logic and apply it to some other statements.

  • Tap dancers are 80% water, so water can tap dance (suggested by Robin Ince)
  • Physicists are 80% water, so water can do physics.
  • Soldiers are 80% water, so water is combat trained in weapon skills and tactics

You could literally go on for hours with these. Homoeopathic Consultants are dangerous, and should be banned due to the misinformation they spread. They are as bad as the religiously indoctrinated.

This has only been a short post because I just wanted to get my opinion and condemnation of the practise into the public arena.
